Phil on his beautiful ride:

The Fairmont was bought for $8500 with 100, 000 kms on the clock only 18 months ago. Car has been well looked after and will continue to be.

First mod was the stereo system. I decided to take the job on myself without any previous experience. Armed only with a workshop manual I managed to install the CD player, rear 270w speakers, 400W amp and managed to make a custom box for the Twin 12" subswoofers that sat flush with the angled back seats but still leaving enough room for luggage. The subs are currently out of the car to make way for our newborn's monster pram (doh). But he is quickly growing out of it.

Sick of the cheap pod filter I installed a EL GT snorkle and a K&N Filter. Next, I went to my local exhaust bloke, who I have to say was very helpful and didnt charge me for his time and advice, and picked up a mandrel bent and straight piece of mild steel. Then I went home to cut everything up to size and sat it on the motor for the exhaust bloke to weld up some brackets. I have to say, the car has a definite increase in power since using this setup compared to the pod filter. Apart from exhaust/intake mods it largely remains stock.

I dont mind the Fairmont wheels as they have a factory polished coating and probably will stay on the car for a long time, the ride height was lowered recently by 35mm on the rear & 25mm on the front and doesnt look like a monster truck anymore!. The factory tint is better than new but the aircon has died so no-one sees the tint very often!!

I fitted an XR8 boot spoiler but painting it was a pain because there is no Touch up paintcans available for the colour code B8.  I ended up buying "Deep Wine Red, and its almost a perfect match. Thing is, stupid me decided to paint on a cold day and between every layer the paint would go white (rrrrrr). I ended up quickly sealing it with clear gloss on the last coat, that seemed to stop the colour change.

I have owned a V8 VH in the past. It had a 253 Blue motor that couldnt be killed and although the Fairmont would drag it off easy i loved how the 253 jumped into life from any revs and any gear.

In the future I plan on fitting a pair of Altezza Tail lights. I'm not happy about the lack of front Spoilers available for the EF Fairmont, as i dont really like the Tickford add-ons and the Venom bars are pricey. If there were any future mods it would be new shockies all round and maybe standard Falcon front end with a Venom Front Bar.

We reckon:

A fine example of a well looked after EF Fairmont. The mods done are simple and effective, and enhance this beautiful car no end. The twin dump pipes at the rear give the car a nice. mean look, while maintaining it's purpose of being a comfy, family car.
