sure you scroll down to the very bottom to catch them all
- including concept sketches never seen on the net before...
Introduced to the
public in February 2004 at the FPV Open Day, the Galaxy 540 both shocked and
amazed the crowds - with barely a bad word to be said - amazing for such an 'out
there' concept. But where did the 'Galaxy' start and where is it
today? Good questions all - and some that only those deep within FPV can
honestly answer. Perhaps in years to come when the information is not so
competition sensitive we may come to know the truth but for now, all we can do
is to speculate...

Above: Initial sketch showing just how
much made it to the final product - although based on a Falcon rather than a
Fairlane! - Which raises the question, did FPV initially intend the Galaxy to be a HSV
'Senator' competitor?

Above: Wild yet understated at the same time -
this would
have added some real interest to the FPV showroom and who knows what would have
happened to the Fairlane if it had of come about!

Above: FAT, fat, no matter
which angle you look at it, it just keeps getting better and better. And just in case you missed it, check out those
tail lights, quad exhaust tips, boot lip spoiler & special FPV badging.. GT
bonnet gives clue to what hides beneith...5.4 quad cam V8 anybody? Ooooh
yeah!

Above: The question is,
would Chrysler's 300C be getting such a free ride had Ford had of had the gonads
to release this? I think not. Somehow it just has 'gangster' written
all over it!

& Left:
There are
some real questions to be answered about FPV's original intentions for
this one - after all, who would put so much effort into designing a set of
special badges and then do nothing about it?
 |
|

Above: the finished
product. How many of these would be sitting on shelves and all sorts
of early Fairlanes if FPV had of done the right thing... This has
gotta come close to being the coolest badge on earth!
|

Above: Is there such thing
as having too many shots of this beast? We think not...

Above: Another (albeit rather poor) concept sketch from the
rear. Thankfully the finished product looks much MUCH better...

Above: The LHS was left bare to show how that rear bumper
was constructed - give you ideas anybody?

Left:
Note the
merging of two GT bumpers with the top of the Fairlane original to create
the Galaxy 540...
This
exposes a great method of creating custom modifications to the XR or GT's
bumpers which have been in certain models made of a rubberised compound
which is not so open to plastic welding as the stock bumpers are...

Right:
Anybody recognise the BA tail light in there
somewhere?
Note the
hastily constructed custom tail lights, with blue over-spray onto
reversing lamp lense!
Still, a
great idea for those looking to do something different with their tail
lights - something other than just purchasing a set of custom but already
manufactured tail lights... |
