Shayne's ZA Fairlane - White Knight:

(Back to Fairlanes.)

Seems like some people get all the luck!  Those of you who have ever had to restore a car from less than perfect condition will realize the considerable advantage in finding a car in good condition in the first place but this is another thing altogether...  Finding this particular beast our man Shayne just knew he had stumbled on a good thing with very little to do and most items in very close to new condition.  "Prior to the Fairlane, I owned a 1988 'S' Pac EA Falcon - I had the normal dramas and spent a fair amount of money putting everything right.  In the end it was just sitting in the garage losing money (by the time I sold it in 1996 it had done only 60,000 kms, so I thought I might as well get something which would retain its value - hence the Fairlane."

When it comes to sensational early luxury interiors, you don't go messing with cars as original as this...

Makes sense to us (although who ever bought that EA got a steal!)  About the only part of the 'lane that had suffered seemed to be the motor - with short stop-starts taking their toll over the years justifying a quick freshen up bringing things back to original.  Running the original 289 Windsor backed by a C4 and 8 3/4" diff, a "little old lady" had purchased the Fairlane brand new way back in '67 and owned the beast until 1995 when she decided to do the right thing and hand her licence in.  Fortunately for Shayne a WA collector picked up this particular 'White Knight' and kept everything looking schmik until Shayne came on the scene later the next year.

Just the sort of thing you need to break up the view created by all those monochrome plastic late model econo boxes...

"I bought the car in '96 by which time it had completed 97,000 original miles.  It came with the log books, owners manual and the original Ford brochure for the car and it still has the original spare tyre in the boot, which looks like it has never been used."  Ahhh - the stuff dreams are made of!  Now that Shayne has had a taste of classic-ville with his V8 beauty, his taste-buds are begging for more "The next step may be into a GT of some description - probably an XB - thats if I can convince the wife."  It's ok Shayne - we understand how it is.  In the mean time, enjoy that ZA Fairlane (we would) - and you never know, she may grow to love it too...
