Lee's first blood...

(Back to EF Visitors Cars.)

Imagine owning a car like this and only being 21.  Could life get any better?  But things didn't start out that way.  Believe it or not this is actually Lee's third car - with the first being a "Galant which didn't stay
long :)" quickly followed by the XD Falcon S-pack shown below.  Like I said, not bad for a 21 y.o...

Lee's second car - one of the cleanest near-stock XD Falcon's we've seen in a while...

Like every good vehicle purchase, the XD didn't stay stock for long.  Built in December 1980 and first registered in 1981 Lee purchased the 'D in 1998 becoming only it's second owner.  The car had only 108,000kms on the clock and was bog standard so Lee quickly went to work dropping it 50mm closer to mother earth, adding the 16x7 Performance AP7's and an LPG conversion along the way.  "As I was only 18 and a first year apprentice at the time, money 4 petrol was scarce" Lee says explaining the decision to go LP.

The stereo came next with a Kenwood flip down face head unit and matching ten stacker gaining the ticket.  Speakers from the same manufacturer were chosen 6x4" in the front and 220w 7x10's in the rear to pump out the tunes.  "This is how it stayed for about six months until I got a 12" soundstream reference comp' sub, and a 50W x 4 RMS Sherwood amp to run the sub and 7x10's. This was exactly how I wanted the car now - a great looker and a killer stereo."  Eventually the lack of creature comforts (A/C in particular) lead Lee to his current purchase with the XD making way to what you see here.

Imagine cruising the streets of Adelaide in this?  Lee doesn't have to imagine...

Starting with a '95 series 1 EF Fairmont purchased in 2000, Lee set about making things right with a set of lowered King Springs dropping the whole show 35 mm in total - and complimenting them via a set of Monroe GT Gas shockers to give a "comfortable, responsive ride" (you can't hear any complaints from us!)  Lee continues "All this was installed by myself and my dad at a cost of $460 for the parts, - a lot better than the $850 I was initially quoted for everything fitted!"  Tinting the windows came high on the priority list and helped keep out that oppressive Summer heat while also managing to look great at the same time (most important use).

Hmmm...yummy!  Like that other area oh so close to Adelaide producing the other red stuff...

Not long passed and the obligatory stereo swap loomed large on Lee's bank account with a new pioneer CD/tuner head unit to giving some decent tunes although still through the factory speakers until Lee's bank balance recovers sufficiently to move to stage 2.  Being in the right place at the right time has a lot to be said for it - as Lee would agree picking up the Titan 17x7.5" by 'Performance Wheels' almost brand new with 235/45/17 'Ultra' tyres (80%tread) fitted for a measly $1000 all up - not bad even if I say so myself...

So what's next for this luxo Ford?  Lee states that since he's happy with the looks for the time being, it's time to begin uprating the performance side with a 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust having already been fitted as the first on a long list that will eventually include induction changes and a camshaft to "help me get that bit extra".  Just goes to show you don't have to go over the top to have an extremely desirable and easy to live with ride - just ask Lee.

A parting shot of another great Visitor's Car - go the Falcons!  Or should that be "give GM the a..."
